Truman: True Man

The Truman Show, a movie full of deeper, symbolic meaning of the “True Man, Perceived,” as its title suggests. This first-time joint effort by me (Jesse) and Gabe (author of blog Upon the Face of Waters) is an analysis intended to uncover whatever hidden truth we suspect is encoded within the script of this film. It’s our hope that this two-perspective approach will bring some fresh discoveries to this journey.

As we began with this, we quickly realized that an entire book could probably be written on profound truth hidden within this film. So, perhaps this might be part 1 of more to come…

“In case I don’t see ya… good afternoon, good evening and good night.”

Ford Taurus

I try to imagine what is symbolized here. Truman in his Ford Taurus.

Ford means “a passage or a shallow crossing” (from German root etymology). Taurus is the name of a bull, a frequently used symbol for a ‘strong force.’ The taurus (bull) refers to the torus (field). The torus is the duality we’re currently experiencing (see link). It is the left and the right opposing forces dancing around each other and, eventually, working as one. It is the light and the dark, the black and the white doing what opposites do. Opposing, yet propelling. This is something I’m actively pondering on and have explored in other posts on this blog. Interestingly, there is a narrow passage (aka a ford) within the torus, which is at the center (center, centaur, cenTAURus). In a symbolic way, “Truman in his Ford Taurus” might be code for “True Man crossing through the center of duality.” Referencing a previous post, the centaur pierces the bull …and crossing through/over is symbolized by the cross.

The Dog | Two Bulls and a Coward | The Twins and Truman

This pivotal scene where the Sirius lamp falls from the sky to trigger the stirrings of awakening in Truman deserves a deeper look. Sirius the Dog Star is known to be a source of “ET” or divine intelligence for channels and mediums. It’s a source of light. It’s also a twin star, there is Sirius A and Sirius B.

The next shot is between the two pillars – the twins:

We see alot of dogs and a lot of twins, in this movie and other coded and loaded films like it.

The twins are doggin’ Truman in this scene, as they shove him up against the poster:

The chicken’s head looks like a sideways crown or corona, which we see during an eclipse of the twins sun and moon:

This shot being right after Truman orders a magazine at a stand selling “Dog Fancy

Dog lies. But dog is also jackal-headed Anubis, the “keen-scented Deity that could guide man through the darkness of incarnational night” (Kuhn). This is truth. So we have truth and lies, “dog fancy.” the two polarities of the bi-bull, the dual animal, the zoo-diac. Tales from the bible are told in parable. Truth must be unpacked from the false cover story (bull shit).

The two men, identical twins, represent the two bulls (forces). The left and the right opposing forces working in unison, keeping the COWard subdued by the BULL. The twins seem to exist solely as a distraction for Truman. Something is being communicated to the careful observer when the twins rather forcefully nudge Truman against the banner that reads “Free Range Kaiser Chicken.” This whole scene is accompanied by Mozart’s Piano Sonata No. 11 “Alla Turca,” which means Turkish March (I could go on about this poultry theme but perhaps we’ll save that for another post).

What does “Free Range Kaiser Chicken” actually mean here? Observe the banner closely: a chicken with a crown, marching (as in military).

Free = Not in bondage, acting of own will

Range/Ranger = Roamer

Kaiser = King of Kings (etymology > German for Emperor). King has a crown, which connects with corona, eclipse, sun, son.

Chicken = Poultry = Poltroon = Coward. In a way of speaking, to be a chicken is to be a coward. The COWard is afraid of the BULLy.

In a sense, this seems to imply that the perpetuation of true man’s fears, keeping him in this state and pushing him through many trials is of benefit to some higher level power. Just as we raise chickens for a profit, so is true man being raised for a prophet.

Sylvia & Meryl

As the story goes, Truman desires to know Sylvia, as it was love at first sight, but he never could get close to her. Instead, Meryl was scripted and pushed into his life, preventing Truman from pursuing Sylvia.

As I understand it, Sylvia represents a higher spirit/form outside of the constraints of Truman’s world. Sylvia suffers with him, as if in prison with him but apart. Throughout the movie, we learn that Sylvia is actively trying to contact Truman through various means in order to ‘wake’ him up to the reality of his world. She cares for him but also clearly desires to be with him.

Contrary-wise, Meryl represents surfaces and illusions. Her purpose is to dissuade Truman at every turn from acting on his suspicions and keep him running from his own shadow.

Meryl – means shining sea (mer is also sea in french). Surfaces, Illusions, Reflections.
Sea | See
Sylvia – originates from Latin word ‘silva,’ meaning forest. Wikipedia states the name means ‘spirit of the wood.’ Drives Truman mad as he obsesses over her, searching her out as a secret pastime. Sylvia is played by actress Lauren Garland, which means “laurel tree, sweet honour, wisdom,” according to Wikipedia.
Silva | Wood | Sliver | Splinter

“…like a splinter in your mind.”

Sylvia is that splinter in Truman’s mind, causing him to know something is not right.

Sylvia, pictured next to a tree. How fitting!

“Meryl” as ‘sea’ is interesting because both sea and Meryl are “gatekeeping” Truman from real life.

Truman is afraid of water, drowning and that keeps him in the fake reality. With water as incarnation, this whole studio city could be thought of as a pre-life sim, similar to that new pixar movie “Soul”

Pixar's 'Soul' is an imperfect movie for adults in search of a spark - The Chronicle
Souls in training, prior to earthly life

Truman is afraid to incarnate for real, so he keeps running the sim, just like in Groundhog’s Day Bill keeps running the same day again and again. He is afraid to get on the boat. The dock features the two pillars because incarnation is about accepting duality, for a time.

But, in a twist, Truman is played by a J.C., and Jim Carrey is likely one of these lifetime actors, he’s always acting, even off-set, and they made him all enlightened and woke, right? He walks around with a big beard saying deep things…

I don’t buy it…it’s a script. Part of the Jim Carrey Code: make him “woke.”So the joke is on us, the viewer, thinking we know a secret that Truman doesn’t know, that his reality is scripted, when in truth it’s a double blind, he knows exactly what’s going on in his pre-life sim, and off the stage he is still acting with a script, and the masses play “Truman,” being ignorant of that fact, that everyone on the news and TV are “lifetime crisis actors” basically. So who is the true man, after all? Jim Carrey JC as the Christ that doesn’t want to incarnate.

Wasn’t this is the original sin of Lucifer and his host of angels? The sin of the angelics prior to incarnation is a hesitancy or unwillingness to “fall.” Hence the idea of Lucifer and his hosts being booted out of Heaven. But this very well may apply to all of us, on some level. Kuhn writes about how Onan’s sin, which now applies to wasting the seed via masturbation, was a parable of this same hesitancy to fully copulate with matter (mundane earthly life). Maybe they were called The Watchers because they only wanted to watch from Heaven, but not partake themselves. We are all fallen angels because we fell into matter, we dived in the water (incarnated, the Cycle of Necessity), we got on that ferry boat.

One to Two, Two to One

The ‘one becomes two’ and ‘two becomes one’ themes, are prevalent throughout the film. In the bigger picture of life and death, it is thought that when one becomes two, it is actually death (though we perceive it as the start of new life here). But, truly as I now see it, one dies into two (to die, dice, to cut). Di- prefix to words implies ‘double.’ So, when one dies, one becomes two.

Chef’s Pal! It’s a dicer, grater, peeler all in one!

Example of one becoming two:

Trip to Wells Park, Harbor Island Ferry Terminal. The man in the booth asks “one way or return?” Truman stauntly replies with shock, as if deeply conflicted by the question, “return.” He hands a $1 bill in exchange for a 2-way ticket (ticket has a large ‘2’ printed on it). One becomes two, symbolically demonstrated.

Terminal: fatal. To die.

At first watch, it seems like a bit of a ‘sick’ joke to send Truman on a trip to the dock, knowing full well he would not be able to face his fear. Truman walks through the revolving terminal gate, stops at the twin pillars, and returns through the same gate, saying “you go ahead, I’ll… I’ll be fine.” It seems revolving gate and his shuddering statement is of twofold significance. “Fine” has a few meanings… First, a fine (as a noun) is both a termination and a penalty… a death penalty in a sense. Similar to French “fin,” which means ‘end.’

Note, the revolving gate is important. There is also a revolving door at Truman’s workplace “Life and Casualty.”

Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, to be fine is to be refined. We are refined through trials as we pass through ‘between fire and water.’

Towards the end of the film there is another two to one reference. As Truman sets out to sea, the bartender shouts out “I bet two to one he doesn’t make it!”

Truman pierces the dome (just as the centaur pierces the bull), mourns (sun rises in the mourning), and ascends the ‘sky’ stairs. Sylvia descends to meet him. Truman ascends, Sylvia descends. Two to one.

Once Truman is ready to exit, he bows out (another reference to bowing out was when we was hanging over the bow of the boat) and crosses through.

Truman as the Son and The “Double Crossers”

The reason for Truman’s irrational fear of water was the fake planned death of his father at a young age:

The dying Father God, the dismembered Osiris, that must be reconstituted in the Son Horus, or in this case JC.

He runs into the guy who played his “dead” dad, at age 30 (when Jesus started his ministry) This event really sets his mind to start unraveling his pseudo-reality.

The subject has begun to become self aware (woke). His dead dad wakes him up, like a funeral wake, you awake in the mourning…

You’ve got the father, son and holy ghost.

You know Truman is the son because he keeps getting crucified:

”i’ll cross my fingers for ya,” he tells his wife, followed by the cross beam: ”

Thus they are “double crossing” us.

Rope ‘cross’ as if being crucified:

It tells then, the story from the First Adam to the Last Adam, from the Lucifer afraid of water not wanting to incarnate, to the man who literally cracks the dome ceiling to escape the Matrix (the Last Adam, the Christ, the resurrection, ascension, etc.).

CRISIS: Truman is missing, he is waking up and must be stopped. All the actors in the town band together to find him.

The way they stand in lockstep, reminds me of reports we kept hearing after these false flag events, of real firemen or cops or rescue men being turned away from the scene. (See Ole Dammegard’s breakdown of the Manchester “bombing” as one example). Because after all, the event must be completely controlled from the media crew, to the shooter and victims and rescue men themselves.

The way they block Truman at every turn from traveling outside the town (waking up), is a nod perhaps to the way the MSM blocks and suppresses authentic truth while bombarding us brute-force style with propaganda and lies on all angles.

But Truman starts to see it. “Look Meryl,” he says from his car, where he has been sitting parked and watching traffic. “They’re on a loop. They just go round and round.” He proceeds to correctly predict the next three cars that pass.

Meryl’s job as double crosser is to gas-light him and make him feel like the schizoid “conspiracy theorist.” Jim Carrey plays this role very well and did so in the gematria film, The Number 23:

Symmetric Duality (pt.2)

Expanding on thoughts from part 1: Symmetric Duality (pt.1)

The truth is hidden in plain sight.

Torus | Taurus | Aura | Torah

The aura that is all around us, flowing through us and in everything.

The Torah (also known as the first five books of the bible | bi-bull) was spelled out with letters derived from the torus (as Stan Tenen’s work describes well, mentioned previously). Are they, perhaps, the same thing? Would not the truth be universal and free of doctrinal requisition?

Torah | Aura | Toral | Aural | Oral

au·ral
/ˈôrəl/

adjective
relating to the ear or the sense of hearing.

o·ral
/ˈôrəl/

adjective
by word of mouth; spoken rather than written.

It might not be hard to believe at this point that our aura, which I imagine as our own individual torus field, is very much connected to what we hear and, in turn, what we say… aural | oral – from aura.

In fact, the ripple effect of the very words we speak seems infinite. What we say and do does matter tremendously!

The torus, represented by the taurus bull (a symBULL as pointed out by SynchroMiss). Taurus bull, a symbol of a strong force. There are opposing forces – opposites on either side – and between them a center.

Center | Centaur

centaur (n.)
monster in Greek mythology, with the head, torso, and arms of a man joined to the body of a horse, late 14c., from Latin centaurus
derived from Greek kentauros.

…Centaurus?

Battle of Centaurs and “Wild Beasts” – pulled from Wikipedia.

Cen-taurus

According to Wikipedia… “The Greek word kentauros is generally regarded as being of obscure origin. The etymology from ken + tauros, ‘piercing bull‘, was a euhemerist suggestion in Palaephatus’ rationalizing text on Greek mythology, On Incredible Tales, which included mounted archers from a village called Nephele eliminating a herd of bulls that were the scourge of Ixion’s kingdom. Another possible related etymology can be “bull-slayer“.”

< Thoughts on this: The ‘piercing bull’ idea brings with it a notion of breaking free of the torus. The tale of Parzival and the holy grail seems to be about this as well. Parzival etymology breaks down to ‘pierce, breakthrough the valley.’ The valley is ” the river-land between two ranges of hills (vale etymology).” Is this also the narrow path?

According to Greek mythology, the centaur slays the bulls. The centaur pierces the bull.

Referring once again to the crossbow analogy:

CROSSBOW: Opposing forces of the crossbow work together. The center force is the ‘bull slayer’ that utilizes and overcomes the two opposing forces. The center|centaur consumes both bulls (forces), bringing them into unity.

I wonder if the hidden meaning of “Centaurus” (cen-taurus) implies the culmination at the center of a torus. As both opposing forces of the torus are ultimately governed by 0-9, as all things are encoded using these numbers (ten digits each side, 10×10, or 1 and 9 9, as in one hundred). Cent is known to mean ‘hundred,’ such as cent in French and the one cent coin (1/100 of a dollar). The term ‘percent’ is to represent a fraction of one hundred. And in line with recent revelations, cent brings us back to scent, nose, gnosis.

Cent | Scent | Nose | Knows | Gnosis

Cen-Taurus…

Etymology (Wiktionary.org):
From Old Portuguese cen, from cento, from Latin centum…

Numeral:
cen – one hundred; 100

Usage notes: The indeclinable form cen means “one hundred” only…

Does it seem a little bit like cent in this theme is the unity of opposites? The centaur to the taurus? The bull-slayer? The magnitude of left multiplied (or amplified) by the magnitude of right? 10×10, or one more than 99 (9 and 9)?

Perhaps that’s a reach on my part… but it does get increasingly difficult to attribute anything to coincidence these days. This reasoning does bring us back to the importance of the straight and narrow path, which leads to life. Not to the left, not the the right but straight through the center. All of these cross symbols do seem to represent life, as best as I currently understand them:

  • Ankh appears be unity of opposites. To be specific, it is in the similitude of a female womb, with a left leg and right leg spread apart (duality) and the male phallus in the center, the narrow path leading to life.
  • Greek Cross (our plus sign) is, of course, used in our mathematical expressions to represent increase, addition…
  • Saltire (our multiplication sign) is ironically (or not) used again in our mathematical expressions to signify multiplicity. To “be fruitful and multiply” is the foundational function of life.
  • Christian Cross is a slight deviation from the Greek cross which appears to take on more the form of man, mapped out perfectly by a man on the cross, with the legs below and the left/right arm on either side. This, again, as with all cross symbols, appears to signify the unity of opposites leading to life. The path between fire and water.

Contrarywise, the ‘equal’ sign (=) consists of two parallel lines, never crossing. This is because it does not represent equal AND opposite, but ONLY equal. To be ONLY equal is, really, in my humble opinion, to be nothing at all. Everything in existence must have its opposite, as is clearly evident with any amount of honest reflection. The light must be contrast by the shadows. For example, to say you are a man is to say nothing at all, unless there exists a woman also – an opposite. The opposite must exist for either to exist.

A brief Interjection: Society today is offering us a false equality not properly balanced by opposites. This is inevitably leading to pure chaos, breakdown and destruction of life itself.

Yes, the balanced scale does represent equality of opposites, however, it is often misused as an illustration of equality today. The fundamentally flawed equality of today should be properly illustrated by having the man and woman both on one side of the scale, leaving the opposite side empty.

= + x

Interestingly, the difference between ‘+’ and ‘x’ is about 45 degrees… or 9. But that’s getting a little too abstract for even me.

If there should be life (“good”), there should also be death (“evil”). But the marrying of the two can’t be described by either, just as violet is unlike red and blue. The union is indescribable by opposing terms. Just as the crossbow uses left and right forces to hit its target, we in the same manner might transcend this physical plane. I’m not by any means implying partiality (a little bit good and a little bit bad), but a completely extraordinary state more in line with perfection if there ever was one.

A final thought on unity of opposites…

A cross is all about going across. It is our map to navigating this torus realm, the apple of the knowledge of opposites. Going across (a-cross) the gnosis (nose’s) bridge to real eyes (realize) and behold the Just One.

Just.

One.

Symmetric Duality (pt.1)

This post expands on: Where are we? and The Binary Illusion of Choice: The Left and Right Paradigm Hiding Truth in Plain Sight

What do you think? Is it a coincidence?

A typical torus field – visualization of outer and inner surfaces

Fictitious “Van Allen Radiation Belts” around spherical earth.

Yes, there is a curve! …but it’s not the one you’re looking for. The truth is always there… waiting… hiding in plain sight. But even the truth has its opposite “lying” in plain sight.

Before we get into the torus field, I want to lay some groundwork (for my own method of thinking)…

As I’ve written before, we are ‘between fire and water.’ That is symbolic for this temporary place we now sojourn, as it is one of opposites. As I understand it, it is dual in nature. It is a symmetrical duality. We intuitively know fire and water to be opposites: symbolic opposing forces that, when combined, create steam. Steam/air symbolizes ascension and spirit – this is the straight and narrow path. Let me illustrate:

CROSSBOW: Opposing forces of the crossbow work together

I recently acquired a crossbow (yet to actually try the thing out) and as I was pondering it struck me… The opposing forces and the straight and narrow path are right there in the design of the crossbow. It can be understood that this symmetric duality is out of absolute necessity when observing how it works. The crossbow utilizes the principle of the cross (✞), leveraging an opposing force on both the left and on the right, propelling the arrow forward. Both forces must be equal and opposite. I would say this reasoning could shed new light on the meaning of the cross symbol itself. Wasn’t this the whole idea of Jesus’ life – to show the way, the truth and the life? …the symbol of the archetypal man awakening who was crucified on a cross …?

And let’s not forget that scene in “The Truman Show” where Jim Carrey (J.C. – as in Jesus Christ) makes his exit.

Final scene in “The Truman Show,” where JC presents the symbol of the cross before exiting the false reality.

It is at the end when Truman ascends the stairs and it is also at the end when his opposite (Sylvia) descends to meet him. I suspect this is symbolic of the union of opposites. Male, female and, perhaps, conscious and subconscious – or lower nature and spirit.

Even more strangely (but now seemingly less so), the calculated values of the two characters’ names (Truman and Sylvia) are so close that, in all cases, their value difference is just one. 1. When one is taken from the other (or vice versa) the result is 1.

Is the cross our universal exit symbol? Or, is it a symbol for transcendence? That is to say, a symbol for boundless, eternal? I will be sure to seriously ponder on this one… Speaking of ‘serious,’ wasn’t it Sirius that caught Truman’s attention before getting into his Ford “Taurus?”

The Torus

Just as “a whirlpool is a body of rotating water produced by opposing currents…

While there are technical definitions of what a torus is, I will refrain from regurgitating them here. The truth in regards to the torus is intuitive and can be comprehended simply as a principle. A principle by which all things in this realm seem to exist.

The torus field depicted above shows how opposing forces ultimately work together. It shows how they are, indeed, connected. But, perhaps most importantly, it shows a symmetric duality culminating at a center point, while taking on the overall shape of a sphere or donut.

Similarly, we are dualistic beings. We are wired that way, with a left and a right hemisphere. We have 2 eyes, 2 ears, 2 arms, 2 legs… The body is a perfect symmetry – each side a mirror opposite. As we walk… left, right, left, right… But within our being, we do have a center.

Words spoken are literally spells cast, as they are ‘spelled’ out from the torus itself.

As if to ‘cast’ a shadow, a simple reorientation of the torus field vortex reveals every letter of the Hebrew alphabet (source: meru.org)

The cross-section of the torus reveals a vortex pattern, which is actually a 3-dimensional spiral pattern.

A reorientation of the vortex produces the letters that make up the words we speak…

Dive into this: http://www.goldenmean.info/dnaring/FIRSTBK.PDF

The torus is, literally, the apple we all bit into.

A new way of understanding the symbolism behind the famous apple from the tree of knowledge of ‘good and evil.’

The apple is a symbol of the torus.

It’s not hard to understand when looking at these forms derived from the torus why the Taurus bull was named as such. The torus/taurus, with its opposing forces…

Opposing Taurus bulls, mirror opposites.

But what is between them? Ah, of course… the sun/son. A symbol for the truth – in plain sight: not to the right, nor to the left… but straight down the middle… the narrow path.

And the high priest answered and said to him, ‘I adjure you by the living God that you tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God.’ Jesus said to him, ‘It is as you said’.

Mathew 26:63,64

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 14:6

The Binary Illusion of Choice: The Left and Right Paradigm Hiding Truth in Plain Sight

To expand on a previous post

I’d like to take a moment to appreciate this scene from “The Matrix” where Neo (anagram for ‘One’ – as in ‘Anointed One’) is faced with two choices offered to him by Morpheus (Greek for “God of sleep and dreams,” according to Wikipedia). Many have speculated on the deeper meaning of this scene and now I’d like to offer my take on it for you to mull over. Here’s a snippet from that scene for context:

Morpheus: The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work, when you go to church, when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.
Neo: What truth?
Morpheus: That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else you were born into bondage. Born into a prison that you cannot smell or taste or touch. A prison for your mind. Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself. This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. [opens hand, unveiling blue pill] You take the blue pill, the story ends, you wake up in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. [opens hand, unveiling red pill] You take the red pill, you stay in Wonderland, and I show you how deep the rabbit hole goes. [Speaks before Neo takes the Red Pill] Remember: all I’m offering is the truth. Nothing more.
[Neo takes the red pill after a few moments of thought, and washes it down with a mouthful of water from the glass next to him]
Morpheus: Follow me.

It strikes me as an obvious portrayal of our dream-state reality where, as I’ve alluded to previously, we’re constantly offered two choices (opposing forces): you’re either left or right, pro this or anti that, blue or red. If you follow the Matrix trilogy, you’ll know there is question as to whether or not Neo ever does actually exit the simulation at all, or if he has been fooled by the very system he wishes to be free from… Perpetually trapped in this left/right simulation paradigm (sleep state), spiraling only downward into a deeper sleep – just as water spirals in a whirlpool.

“A whirlpool is a body of rotating water produced by opposing currents…

Wikipedia – Whirlpool

Note that regardless of which pill he chooses, red or blue, he would still be taking it with a glass of water. Water, symbolic of this physical/material, surface-level realm (but let’s explore that more in another post).

As an aside, the spiral pattern can be represented and denoted by the number “6,” the number of man (in Genesis, man was created on the 6th day). This number is also connected to the ‘beast’ system, which I would confidently say the ‘matrix’ simulation is an allegory for. The beast system is denoted by the number 6 threefold:

“Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666.”

Revelation 13:18

Morpheus claims to offer ‘knowledge’ and ‘knowing’ of the truth when he says “all I’m offering is the truth.” We can deduce that this statement in and of itself on surface level is not completely true as he is clearly offering both red and blue pills. Morpheus proceeds to offer a left and right ‘dream-state’ reality. Perhaps a case can be made that, when observing the image below, the left/right paradigm is symbolized by the two reflections in his ‘sunglasses’ (somethin’ about those shades). There are two realities, but both a reflection (mirror or opposite) of same. Notice, though, what is between them? There, in front of us hidden in plain sight? Between the two illusions is the nose – a pun for “knows.”

Two illusions, left and right, symbolized by the reflections in Morpheus’ sunglasses.

The path to knowledge (to know, nose/knows/gnosis) and ascending to a higher plane is not to the left nor to the right, but through the center. Even the nose itself has a bridge, as if to be symbolic of the ‘narrow path’ in the context of this theme.

The Truman Show: Straight and narrow bridge

Narrow path… Directly between the eyebrows. And who would’ve expected that “brow” has another less popular definition relating to a ‘narrow passageway?’ Brow is another word for gangplank – “a flat plank or small, movable, bridgelike structure for use by persons boarding or leaving a ship at a pier.” Brow can also imply the ‘summit of a hill or pass.’

As I like to defer to on this blog, a quote from the hidden book of 2 Esdras:

“…There is a city built and set on a plain, and it is full of all good things; but the entrance to it is narrow and set in a precipitous place, so that there is fire on the right hand and deep water on the left. There is only one path lying between them, that is, between the fire and the water, so that only one person can walk on the path.”

2 Esdras 7:6-8 (Apocrypha/hidden scripture)

This is the “straight and narrow path.” Notice the irony – the city is “set on a plain,” as if to infer the truth is hidden in ‘plain’ sight. It’s also clear that no one can lead you down that path. That is to say, there’s no one you can follow to walk it. The straight and narrow path is illustrated symbolically throughout various texts. Here are a few popular examples:

“Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil.”

Proverbs 4:27 (note: pointing out the obvious – ‘evil’ is ‘live’ backwards)

“The voice of one crying in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight.’ ”

Mark 1:3

Even Jesus/Yeshua (whatever translation you ascribe to) is quoted as saying:

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.

Mathew 7:13-14

This will definitely require more deep thought to truly understand what is being communicated here. I can say, though, that in a practical sense, when we choose to place our complete trust and faith in man, be it a religious leader, a teacher, a scientist, a doctor of medicine, a politician – no matter what form – we are choosing to surrender our own sovereignty in exchange for ignorance and its perpetual delusions.

The Path Between Fire and Water

By this reasoning we can be reminded to test everything, question the status quo, look deeper, beyond the surface level. What we ‘do’ matters tremendously. Intuition should never be ignored as we live with the purpose of refinement in mind because this life is, indeed, a time of refinement for our souls:

49 He answered me and said, “Listen to me, Ezra, and I will instruct you, and will admonish you yet again. 50 For this reason the Most High has made not one world but two. 51 For whereas you have said that the righteous are not many but few, while the ungodly abound, hear the explanation for this.

52 “If you have just a few precious stones, will you add to them lead and clay?”

53 I said, “Lord, how could that be?”

54 And he said to me, “Not only that, but ask the earth and she will tell you; defer to her, and she will declare it to you. 55 Say to her, ‘You produce gold and silver and brass, and also iron and lead and clay; 56 but silver is more abundant than gold, and brass than silver, and iron than brass, and lead than iron, and clay than lead.’ 57 Judge therefore which things are precious and desirable, those that are abundant or those that are rare?”

58 I said, “O sovereign Lord, what is plentiful is of less worth, for what is more rare is more precious.”

59 He answered me and said, “Weigh within yourself what you have thought, for he who has what is hard to get rejoices more than he who has what is plentiful.

All Things Come About by Strife

“Between Fire and Water,” symbolically speaking, is precisely where I think we are (or, for the time being, strive to be) – between both fire and water. Not as a final destination but as a necessary path to follow.

“…There is a city built and set on a plain, and it is full of all good things; but the entrance to it is narrow and set in a precipitous place, so that there is fire on the right hand and deep water on the left. There is only one path lying between them, that is, between the fire and the water, so that only one person can walk on the path.”

2 Esdras 7:6-8

“…between the fire and the water” is symbolic for this narrow path, with opposing forces on either side, that each of us must pass through to be tempered. With an affinity for the truth and being careful not to deviate to the left or to the right, we are spiritually refined through trials. So, adversity is inevitable and we should not fear it. To quote Heraclitus, a Greek philosopher of old, “what opposes unites, and the finest attunement stems from things bearing in opposite directions, and all things come about by strife.” This world’s grand illusion continually offers a left/right paradigm to perpetuate itself, leading many off the narrow path (and few find it) and refining those who persevere between.

The truth is neither left nor right, but that which is between them: The straight path.

I’ve expanded more on the concept of a left/right paradigm here.
